WordPress is one of the most popular and versatile blogging platforms and content management systems used on the web today.wordpress thumb Day #10: Basic Wordpress Plugins Required For Your Blog

I thought it might be insightful to give you a list of the required plugins.

Akismet

This is probably your most important plugin to use and most WordPress versions already have this plugin installed when you first download WordPress.  This is your basic spam fighter preventing spammers.

Google XML Sitemap

This plugin generates XML enabled sitemaps to help with indexing by search engines like Google, MSN, Yahoo and more.

All in One SEO Pack

The reason why this plugin is so popular because its so simple to use in helping you with your SEO by making it easy to change titles,prevent duplicate content and other optimization options.

Contact Form

This is a contact form plugin, which is simple yet flexible. Contact Form 7 can manage multiple contact forms, plus you can customize the form and the mail contents flexibly with simple markup.

Database Backup

It allows you easily to backup your core WordPress database. You may also backup other tables in the same database.

Related Posts

It gives you a list of posts and/or pages related to the current entry, introducing the reader to other relevant content on your site.

WP Super Cache

This plugin will help your server cope with a front page appearance on digg.com or other social networking site. Very useful plug-in for speeding your blog up.

WP-PageNavi

This plugin allows a better navigation by assigning pagination to your post. You can choose how many post to be displayed in one page and navigate directly to certain page.

Popular Posts

This plugin displays a list of your blog’s most-viewed posts. This plugin was created by the same people that made the Similar Posts plugin, so you can use the same options to customize

Great list, but I would also like to add these:
– Broken Link Checker
– No Self Pings
– Smart Youtube

Another great plugin is AdRotate but I guess it is not something you need.

Some other plugins are also necessary like sexy bookmarks,tweetmeme,Google analytics etc.

Some of the plugins from this list should come with wordpress installation. They are compulsory for a professional blog. But before instaling a plugin, always think about the server load and throttling error if you are hosting your blog on Shared Server. Since wordpress is PHP – MySQL based platform, Wordpress itself consumes so much processing time of server CPU. Try to customize the plugins like XML sitemap and Super Cache to reduce the server load and suspension from your host.

Anyway, again a nice tutorial from Surender. Wish you all the best buddy. I agree with Akshay that your new navigation and offer section is really looking cool.

Yes.Wordpress should develop some inbuilt features like plugins so the server load can reduce.

You have mentioned all the basic plugins, but you should extend your list by some plugins mentioned by above commentator, also Robots Meta plugin is very useful to deal with duplicate content issue.

That’s a nice list you made for us.
I would like to add “Ad-Minister”, “One Click Plugin Updater”, “Syntax Highlighter Plus” to the list as I think that these are the must have plugins.
