Website downtime can be very frustrating and it can be even worse. It will affect  your website, its users and your entire business.

1. Purchase a back up DNS.

The downtime can be related to your Domain Name  Server. Your DNS backup service will take your DNS information in case your primary DNS shuts down.

2. Get a Website Monitoring Service.

You can Buy a service that will send hits to your  website and this will notify you minutes before if breaks down.

3. Backup your database.

Make sure to provide an extra backup before  everything else will faiL.

4. Keeping your domain name on auto renew.

Downtime problems could be fixed  by keeping your domain name renewed. Set it to auto renew.

5.  Use GWT.

Google Webmaster Tools provides you with reports about your website visibility.You will also be informed of any error that you are having while using  the tool.

6. Use the right server domain codes.

Correct diredirect server codes are essential in making downtime fixing work.  You  should be able to know the proper use of these code. We could ask help from an IT  expert. Using the right HTTP result code will fix the problem in time.

What to do WHEN your sites crashes:

1. Verify the break down. Make sure that the site is really down. Identify if the problem is with your browser or internet connection or your website. Have someone test your site to be sure.

2. Find out the cause. Why do you think downtime is happening? It  is a programming error or an expired domain?

3. Contact IT support. Call your hosting company for assistance regarding your downtime. A techy neighbor can also help fix the problem.

4. Inform your website users. Update your users thorugh Facebook or Twitter and other contacts and notify them of what’s going on. Tell them about your plan. If the downtime is planned, send an email notification before the occurence of the outage.

5. Always check with your IT Team. Communicate with your team will help them find out on the needs of your site.  Ask them about how to solve system outage and ask how it will be solved as when it will be fixed.

6. Calm down.  Downtime happens to each of us so just take it easy. Make sure that your team can fix the issue. So just be prepared and everything will be solved.

Computer breakdowns and outages are expected but if is is actually happening it may be very frustrating. Important activities on the site may be affected for a while but there is no need to be worried. If everything else will fail, your system backup will lighten the issue. IT team will sure to be there to fix the problem in no time.

Very true and useful info. I unfortunately never have yet to have an issue with a crash, but you can certainly bet I have my backup ready!

Great tips mate. The first thing to do would to contact my webhosting company for any explanations as to why my site is down or has crashed. And yes, keeping a backup copy is definitely important.

In most cases, contacting webhost does the trick. Create a support ticket or contact their live chat and issue solved.
