Google Translate recently added Turkish, Thai, Hungarian, Estonian, Albanian, Maltese, and Galician to the mix. The rollout of these seven additional languages marks a new milestone: automatic translations between 41 languages (1,640 language pairs!). This means we can now translate between languages read by 98% of Internet users.

In just a few years, the machine translation group within Google Research has taken its initial research system from two languages to 41 languages and is now handling millions of translation requests a day. For several languages, Google Translate is the first freely available machine translation system for these languages. Of course, there’s always room for improvement, and we’re working hard to improve translation quality. Our statistical models are built from vast quantities of monolingual and translated texts using automated machine learning techniques.

It’s exciting and satisfying to work on a product that can help people access content they may otherwise be unable to understand. Google Launched News for Singapore the newest edition of the Google News family. As with all new edition launches, the English-language Singapore edition is tailored to provide a mix of locally relevant news as well as globally important events. Readers in Singapore can now reach the best news destinations on the internet even faster, and that news publishers in Singapore can connect to news readers even better.

This launch also reaffirms the global nature of Google’s mission, and in particular the importance of Asia within that vision.

Google turned its branded favicon again with new and unique look.

Back in June, Google rolled out a new favicon – the small icon that greets you when you access Google on your URL bar or your bookmarks list.Google favicon inspired by submissions by Google users. While the final icon is a reinterpretation of one contest submission, it draws on design elements and ideas from many of them.

Now it looks like the company has switched again, this time to a logo that incorporates the same stylized lowercase g, but one that also includes the company’s classic yellow/blue/green/red color scheme.
