ShoutMeme.com: The Digg-Clone Launches in India

Since the beginning of Digg’s immense popularity, both as a fun site that brings you fresh  crowdsourced news and as a source of traffic for news sites, there was the idea that smaller, more focused, vertical Digg-like sites would be a great alternative to Digg’s SM ShoutMeme.com: The Digg Clone Launches in Indiaversatility.

ShoutMeme, which launched today in India to cater the Indian community, describes itself as “a place for Publishers… to meet, share, discuss, comment, and vote on what’s happening in the world, it’s another Digg clone.

Content categories include Technology, Economy, Business & World News, Entertainment, and Offbeat. Instead of Digging a story submission, users vote by hitting the “+” button. Just like Digg, only those stories that receive enough votes feature on the site’s homepage.Screen Snaper Image 500x299 ShoutMeme.com: The Digg Clone Launches in India

As well as building the community in terms of raw user numbers – Soren and co. believe that 3-5,000 sign-ups should be enough for ShoutMeme to become “self-sustaining” – the site’s vertical could pose unique challenges of its own.

Of course, the larger the user-base, the greater the rewards for those that successfully game the system. On that note, in the short term at least,Soren concedes that ShoutMeme will have to watch submissions closely and reserves the right to delete suspicious looking stories.

Ultimately, however, ShoutMeme will only succeed if it can persuade publishers of news sites and blogs to add the Shout It submission button to their content, something they’re far more likely to do once SM grows big enough to send significant amounts of traffic back in return. And that’s less likely to happen without the support of publishers.

Wow! this is just another breakthrough for social media. However, it’s just similar to the tweetmeme… However, it’s doesn’t use the Twitter API. One more thing is, Shoutmeme is very new. I think it’s better if they will remove first the Google Ads since the site is very new…

It appears for me, that Blogenage and Shoutmeme are using the same software named “pligg”. How come this can be an Indian version of Digg ?

Digg has its tremendous foot in the bloggers and internet users space. Wondering how come this gonna enter into indian bloggers crowd.

Lets hope for the best !
