In year 2007 there was a lot of discussion about the addictiveness of the Net,and its influence on the young, in both China and India. Not all of it was talk, however, and two instances of actual steps being taken to pervent or control Net-addiction also made headlines.
The chinies have been facing this problem for some time now, what with their Net-savvy populance growing by the minute-much like our population. The china government has already reported in 2007 that amount of internet users grew by almost 24 per cent from 2005 to 137 million, and this meant that the number of Net addicts grew as well approx. 300 million teenagers, by the estimates, are addicted to chatting and of course, pornography. Now China Govt has decided to use the computers those are with auto banned system for ban porno sites and other adult sites including some social sites.
Now China is requiring computer with Censoring Software.
China decided to ban some contet & porno sites from 1st July, and asking to some computer providers to provide computers with pre-installed Censoring Software.
According to NYT ”Zhang Chenming, whose company, Jinhui Computer System Engineering, helped create Green Dam, said concerns that the software could be used to censor a broad range of content or monitor Internet use were overblown. He insisted that the software, which neutralizes programs designed to override China’s so-called Great Firewall, could simply be deleted or temporarily turned off by the user. “A parent can still use this computer to go to porn,” he said.”
Study shows what happening in India:IIT Mumbai had decided to limit and monitor the net connections they provide to students living in hostels in year 2007.
