spam thumb How to Stop Spamming on Your blog Spamming, spamming, spamming hmm! I am fed up  with this buzz on blogosphere.

Everyone is suffering with the spamming attacks. So this is the biggest challenge to the bloggers to fight with spammers.

Here are few ways to fight with spammers:

Spamming is the biggest challenge for blogger but it can be solved with using some WordPress plugins like Akismet etc.

  • Use Contact form:

Don’t publish your email id as email link. Try to create an image of your email. But if you can add contact form on your blog that would be best for you.

  • Use different email id while commenting on another blogs:

Don’t use your personal email id for commenting on another blogs. There is no guarantee of your email privacy.

  • Word verification:

Integrate word verification in comment form or in your contact form. It’s also known as CAPTCHA.It protects the blog from robots or other automated comment software to spamming on your blog.

  • Moderation by admin:

Held all the comments for the approvel. It  depends upon admin that which comment should be deleted or published.

  • Requiring Registration:

Keep control over the comments with Sign Up option. Without registering on your blog no one can comment.

  • Turn off the comments:

This is the single click option to stop spamming on your blog but think for a moment, how to keep your blog alive without comments?

Gmail is actually doing a great job preventing spam and it is rarely I ever get one Gmail did not stop. I recently also started to publish my mail on several sites without getting spam.

Surender, nice descriptive post. I think you can add Math option for spam protection as well. I am using it on my blog and spams reduced by more than 80% on my blog.

Nice tips for newbies. I do not support use of Captcha. Its too annoying and you will lose your commentators.

Also making your readers/commentators register is not a very good idea.

I use all of these tips expect the word verification and the the register option. I think if you moderate you do not need to go to that ectreme. This is a very good post and i will be including it in my “Sunday’s Best” series on my blog tomorrow.

I hate spammers ! Recently I met one spammer online, who claims he is a famous spammer ! :D

And I think CAPTCHA will make us lose comments ! People will get annoyed by it !

I’m moderating all comments on my blog, except those who already were approved once (I guess WordPress auto-approves them based on the e-mail address, IP address or something else).

But on my contact form, even with the use of captcha, I still sometimes receive spam from it, they come 3 or 4 spam emails at once (all the same), with a week or two apart. So it’s not a real problem yet, but could be a spam bot out there who can “read” the captcha I’m using.

Luckily I haven’t received any spammy mail… maybe because I don’t show my blog email address, plus I don’t use it on other sites. Let’s say that if people want to contact me, they have to use my contact form…

I am against most of the spam tools that are out there for Wordpress blogs, I stick to Askimet and I check my comments on a pretty consistent basis.

Some of the other comment plugins do a good job of putting perfectly fine comments into the spam area or things like the Captcha plugins just create an extra layer of “this is a pain” that I don’t want to trouble my readers with.

All excellent tips though for someone looking to put the lockdown on their comments and control spam.
