When you visit a blog you’ve never visited before, through a search,through social networking profile or a link on another blog, what kind of page do you land up on? Usually, it’ll be an article page. You’ll read the article, and decide, based on that article and the other info and look & feel offered to you on that page, whether you’ll go on through the blog or not.
Homepage works like a showcase. It gives the first impression to visitors to stay on your blog or not.So you need to setup your homepage completely in elegant look and with easy navigation system.
So the following things should be on your homepage:
- An about text about yourself / about text about the blog.
- A big call to action, the action being subscribing, either through email or RSS.
- A listing of your latest posts.
- Your “taxonomies”, either your category structure, your tag structure or both.
After that it’s all about personal preferences. I like to show off some of my best content by having featured posts and plugins.So, how does your blogs homepage do on these criteria? What would you do differently?

Hey another useful article for beginners and I’m sure many of new bies are goin to make use of this video tutorial. Just my 2 cents.. try to make home page a landing page.. A magazine style layout will be a perfect example of it… Or problogger website…. Try to show as many posts as you can and specially the popular posts, since your homepage has maximum PR this will ensure your popular page will increase weight age in search engines..

Home page is like heart of your blog thru which the blood (PR) flows throughout the blog. Very nice tutorial Surender, will definitely help new bloggers. One can also add “Random Post” plugin or any featured post plugin to get other achieved posts get crawled frequently. That will help in getting more traffic from Google or other search engines.
