#FollowFriday is one of those concepts that has taken off like wildfire on Twitter. It can be best be explained as being an effective way to promote friends and followers on Twitter to the hundreds of thousands Twitterers out there.
#followfriday is a game in which people suggest who to follow on Twitter. It helps everyone find interesting Twitter users. You list the users you recommend following and add “#followfriday” anywhere in the Tweet so others can find it. The “#” is very important – don’t forget it!
Maxwell Payne says : Basically every Friday on Twitter, thousands will take part in this and promote the usernames of followers they recommend to the community to follow back. You follow people and accounts you like and people choose to follow you.
You may be wondering why the # sign is in front of FollowFriday. The hash symbol is a big part of Twitter and indicates that the words directly after it are a tag’. This allows sites to track the tagged’ words and those following the sites or Twitter accounts linked to the site will see any messages or tweets with the same tag.

i love followfriday because it not created by twitter developer but by user.. and i think most of twitter funtion like RT created by people not twitter developer.. they just fill the blank..
I agree with Extreme John. It’s not worth it. I’ve had my name tweeted by users with over thousand of followers, every week for several weeks and I only got a few followers.
Also, with the new lists feature, I see #followfriday becoming less and less used as it’s much easier to follow a list rather than somebody being “spammed” through a #followfriday tweet, not knowing why to follow them in the first place.
